Showjumping 2024
Dualla Show hosted the final of the Mackey Ireland Waterford Tipperary SJI Amateur League 2024.
In the A section Sharon Power held the lead coming into the final on 17 points with James Noonan only 2 points behind. David Ryan and Shauna Furlong were both on 13 with Heather Ahearne a further point back on 12. In the end it was James Noonan on Cullinagh Ug took the title.
In the AA section Gary Flynn and Hannah McNiven, once again battled it out for overall honours. McNiven came into the final leading by 2 points while Flynn had momentum from a win in Aglish. With Ann-Marie Hynes only 1 point further back and with 5 points for a win, anyone of the three riders could take away the overall AA champion. In the end it was McNiven who took the title riding Hey You.
Grass champion was Gary Flynn with Argento Cruise.
Elsewhere, Ruth Walsh and Joe’s Charm won her second leg in a row in the A section and combined section, flying around for a double clear in 28.77. Jessica O’Reilly and Barretstown Close Shave came second with a super clear in 30.69 while Robbie Watters – winner of the 2023 final – completed the podium with a very competitive double clear in 31.90.
Gary Flynn won the AA section on the day with Argento Cruise with a fast double clear in 29.89. Ann-Marie Hynes and the ever-reliable Busy Lizzie came 2nd with a lovely double clear in 34.47. Niall Browne and Vicomte DH Z finished the podium in 3rd with the fastest round of the day in 27.12 but the last fence on the ground gave 4 faults.
The Waterford Tipperary amateur Committee expressed their gratitude to Mackey Ireland for their fantastic support in sponsoring the league and thanked NutriScience Equine and the Widger family for sponsoring the Dungarvan and Clonmel legs.
