This year Dualla Show hosted the Growvite All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus championship which attracted a large number of exhibitors from all over the country. Enda Kearney from North Clare had an incredible day at Dualla, taking the Junior cow and calf class championship, the intermediate championship and the overall Growvite Supreme Irish Aberdeen Angus Association Championship for 2024 with Jadam Lady Sandra X150 and her calf Lady Sandra A166. His A164 ET was the reserve junior champion while his January calves Sandra A164ET and Sandra A165ET (both full sisters to Lady Sandra X150) were 1st and 3rd and also pairs champions. Adam and Nicole Kearney won both the junior and senior Aberdeen Angus young stock person respectively with Adam also taking the Dualla Show intermediate young handlers class.

Supreme Champion was Goldstar Une Star ET born on October 1st 2023 from Martin Ryan and Family Goldstar Charolais Herd. Sired by Neptune and Dam was Goldstar Scarlette.

Simmental cow Clonagh Majestic Trixie from Garreth Beehan of Clonagh Herd was the reserve champion.

The Hereford section was judged by former Welsh rugby referee and UK Hereford breeder Nigel Owens. Martin Murphy, Irish Hereford Prime board member giving prizes to the winners of the Terminal Index bull championship, Katie Mariga and Michael O’Keeffe

Shane Kelleher won the the commercial no permanent teeth bullock or heifer class with Phoebe before going on to take the continental breeding heifer championship in a strong class of 14. He then teamed up with Roseingrave Commercials to win the best trio class.

In the sheep section, Gyll Condon’s Gill Vale Bentley got tapped then for the interbreed champion.

The Tractor Pulling attracted the usual large attendance. The 5.8t class winner was 18 year old Tommy Breen from Cashel. The 7.5t and 9.5t class was won by Declan MacCauley, Ballyshannon, Donegal. The Supersport Modified 3.5 t Class was won by Rian Patterson from Monoaghan in “Sodbuster”. The Superfarm Modified 3.5t Class was won by “Horrid Henry” driven by Pat Leonard, Wexford. The Open Class was won by Anthony Rice, Ballingarry weighing in at 16130kg.

Tipperary Arm Wrestling Knockgraffon were thrilled with the public reception to their first event at the Dualla show this year. In conjunction with Northern Ireland Armwrestling & Northern Ireland Grip, the event saw hundreds of visitors to our stall trying grip strength challenges, trying out the sport of Arm wrestling with professionals, and participating in kids challenges with prizes. Irish world-rated arm wrestler and former Olympian Adrian O’Dwyer (Leviathan Training, Kilkenny), refereed and instructed across the event. Winner of the Grip Competition was Rory O’Sulliavan, Clonoulty. David Gibson took on the world record on the Finnish Mini V-Bar with an amazing 56.40kg (124.30lbs) lift.

The hugely popular dog show attracted a wide variety of owners and their dogs on the day. Best in Show was Zena with Andrew Vance from Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick.

An exciting climax to the Mackey Ireland Waterford Tipperary SJI Amateurs League 2024 went down to the final riders in both sections with James Noonan on Cullinagh Ug taking the A championship champions while Hannah McNiven riding Hey You took the AA title. Grass champion was Gary Flynn with Argento Cruise. Ruth Walsh and Joe’s Charm won her second leg in a row in the A section and combined. The combination flew around double clear in 28.77. Jessica o Reilly and Barretstown Close Shave came second in the A section with a super clear in 30.69 while Robbie Watters – winner of the 2023 final – completed the podium in 2024 with a very competitive double clear in 31.90. Gary flynn won the AA section on the day with Argento Cruise with a fast double clear in 29.89. Ann-Marie Hynes and ever reliable Busy Lizzie came 2nd with a lovely double clear in 34.47. Niall Browne and Vicomte DH Z finished the podium in 3rd with the fastest round of the day in 27.12 but the last fence on the ground gave 4 faults.

In the main marquee, Aisling Larkin, Sarah Keogh and Ultan Nesbitt entertained the tent throughout the day with cookery, nutrition and gardening demos.

Elsewhere the fantastic wrestlers from Hard Knox Wrestling entertained the crowds. This was the biggest wrestling event to date in Dualla with over with 19 wrestlers.
