Cattle Results 2024
Our main livestock sponsor for 2024 is FBD. This year’s livestock event also hosted the Growvite All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus Club Bull & Heifer of the Year final and the pedigree Hereford male championship which had a first place cash prize of €500.
The Growvite All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus championship attracted a large number of exhibitors from all over the country with Enda Kearney from Co. Clare taking the Junior cow and calf class championship, the intermediate championship and the overall Growvite Supreme Irish Aberdeen Angus Association Championship with Jadam Lady Sandra X150 and her calf Lady Sandra A166.
His A164 ET was the reserve junior champion while his January calves Sandra A164ET and Sandra A165ET (both full sisters to Lady Sandra X150) were 1st and 3rd and also pairs champions. Adam and Nicole Kearney won both the junior and senior Aberdeen Angus young stock person respectively with Adam also taking the Dualla Show intermediate young handlers class.
Supreme Champion was Goldstar Une Star ET born on October 1st 2023 from Martin Ryan and Family Goldstar Charolais Herd. Sired by Neptune and Dam was Goldstar Scarlette.
Simmental cow Clonagh Majestic Trixie from Garreth Beehan of Clonagh Herd was the reserve champion.
The Hereford section was judged by former Welsh rugby referee and UK Hereford breeder Nigel Owens. For the pedigree Terminal Index bull championship event, 40% of the bull’s marks were based on its ICBF terminal index before entering the ring. The remaining 60% of the marks will be scored by the judge. Both scores were combined and the winner chosen. The winner was Katie Mariga and Michael O’Keeffe.
Shane Kelleher won the the commercial no permanent teeth bullock or heifer class with Phoebe before going on to take the continental breeding heifer championship in a strong class of 14. He then teamed up with Roseingrave Commercials to win the best trio class.
Free Clipping Seminar
As part of the lead up to this year’s livestock event, Dualla Show hosted a Free Clipping Seminar to teach exhibitors everything they need to know about showing cattle.
Three star exhibitors shared their tips and tricks on everything from washing, brushing and products, to snaffles, roping and shearing. From Goldstar Charolais herd Martin and Clodagh Ryan brought a wealth of experience from year’s of exhibiting all over the country. And all the way from Carrigaline, Co. Cork, Eustace Burke from Clontead Herd brought his incredible knowledge of handling cattle in show settings.
